Harvard Graduation: Individual vs. Group Sessions

harvard graduation sessions

It may not be grad season quite yet, but we’re already getting ready for it and we know your are too! As we’re writing this, most of you have finished finals and are enjoying a little winter break. As you get ready for graduation, you may be considering a photo session to celebrate your accomplishments. If that’s the case, we think it helps to consider which type of session you want to do.

You can do your grad session solo, with your immediate family, and/or with a group of your friends and fellow graduates! No matter what you choose, we recommend ending with a bottle pop like Alice below!

The Individual grad Session

We’ll snap plenty of full body and individual portraits around areas of campus that you like, or we can guide you to our favorite spots. These sessions usually last about an hour. For Annie, we went from the Sunken Gardens across from the Cambridge Commons and near the school she was graduating from, to Harvard Yard, ending on the steps of the Widener Library. Her partner was with her and they had just gotten engaged (!!!), so we snuck in a couple of quick shots of them at the end of the session.

Arcelio’s family was visiting from out of town to see him graduate so we held our session the same week the ceremonies were taking place. Harvard Yard was packed, but we’re pretty good at navigating crowds (and editing them out when necessary!) to get those quintessential shots around campus for our graduates. We took a mix of portraits of Arcelio, as well as photos of him with different family members. It was such a fun way to celebrate Arcelio and share the beautiful nooks and crannies of Harvard’s campus with his family.

The Group Grad Session

If you’ve been around our blog you know we love these sessions!

Group sessions are 2 or 3 hours in length. This way we have time to visit all of the spots you love while having fun with a variety of group and individuals poses. Expect lots of fun and hat throwing! Here’s another example of a group graduation session.

We celebrated Sawhel, Hillary, + Abbie after Harvard graduation had officially ended. The result? We had the entire campus to ourselves. We went from Widener Library through Harvard Yard to the John Weeks Bridge, which can look amazing at sunset when you catch it!
